Our research has revealed a large body of evidence demonstrating many potential benefits of alkaline water. To understand the implication of the evidence supporting alkaline water use, it’s best to start with an understanding of alkalinity and acidity overall.
When water is acidic, it becomes the ideal environment for the formation of bacteria, fungus, and more. Increasing the pH—making the water more alkaline—will make the water a less likely living space for all kinds of germs and bacteria. Our bodies, according to science, are mostly water. If our bodies are overly acidic, or if our body fluids are overly acidic, we may begin to experience a variety of symptoms and sicknesses because our body has become more hospitable to bacteria and viruses.
When we drink alkaline water, there is evidence that the pH of our body fluids increases accordingly. As a result, the germs that were able to flourish in the acidic environment we previously provided will begin to die off. This is the essence of the alkalizing effect, and is what is responsible for many of the health benefits that people experience after drinking alkaline water.
The negative effects of excess acidity are well documented and many. Examples include:
- Acid reflux
- Ulcers
- Canker Sores
- Insomnia
- Depression
- Muscle Stiffness and Soreness
- Sensitive Teeth and Gums
- Dry, cracked skin
- Headaches
- Muscle Spasms
- Fatigue
- Anxiety
- Irritability
- Arthritis pain
- Osteoporosis
Many people experience relief of these and other symptoms when combining alkaline water use with a healthy alkaline-promoting diet. It stands to reason that if excess acidity can produce the above symptoms, then balancing the pH of the body could improve or dissolve them. Alkaline water use often leaves a person with more zest for life, better moods, and overall better health. Just as much as we know that excess acidity is bad, we can also be confident that promoting alkalinity will have correspondingly positive effects.
I never knew too much acid can cause anxiety. Really makes me wonder as I do have acid reflux issues and anxiety issues. Something that I have found that helps is using a rebounder before eating. They naturally cleanse the lymphatic systems and help balance the pH balance of the body. I would love to see one on beneficial exercises for pH balance.
